Curriculum

Sunshine Early Childhood Center believes that children learn best through play, which is why The Creative Curriculum® provides the framework that allows children to actively explore, learn and play through hands-on experiences.

Teachers reference The Creative Curriculum’s thirty-eight learning objectives when planning monthly project-based studies.

Key elements of implementing The Creative Curriculum:

  • Study Focus: Selecting a specific theme or topic that aligns with children's current interests.
  • Learning Objectives: Clearly defined, developmentally appropriate goals for each domain (Social-Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Language) related to the chosen theme or topic.
  • Play-Based Activities: Designing engaging activities that encourage exploration and discovery through various interest areas in the classroom.
  • Differentiation: Providing options to cater to different learning styles and abilities within the classroom.
  • Teacher Observation & Assessment: Actively observe children during play-based activities to assess their learning and adjust activities accordingly.
  • Open-Ended Questions: Encourage children's critical thinking with open-ended questions about their play-based learning and discoveries.
  • Integration with Other Subjects: Connect chosen themes or topics in other skill areas.
